Los Angeles County incarcerated youth write Pope Francis:
Thank you for washing the feet of youth like us in Italy. We also are young and made mistakes. Society has given up on us, thank you that you have not given up on us.
Tonight we pray for all victims of violence. The families of people we have hurt need healing. Our families need healing. We are all in pain. Let us feel Jesus’ healing tonight.

My album, Revolution of the Heart (available for Free), is an artistic expression of participating in Christ’s Paschal Mystery. It might be an appropriate listen on the way to Triduum services over the next few days.

those persnickety liturgist having hissy fits for francis

And not just the persnickety ones, even the reasonable ones who are worried too. Just make sure you say that title out loud and laugh before you precede.

I do have sympathy for people who desire a more reverent and effortful liturgy. I desire it myself, and hope to put my strength and energy toward that when I am a priest. I also generally find criticisms of High Church being out of touch with people in the pews highly overrated, while too reliant on a competitive view of the Church that isn’t there. I also find it alarming that too so many cynical traditionalists have presumed that I must, somehow be a proponent of some sort of “hip hop mass,” when indeed I am not.

    Pushing Catholics Out the Door

    becket:

Yesterday became a big red battleground full of equal signs and crosses.  I wasn’t a fan.

At the end of the day, it is not a matter of who can win an argument.  It is about who cares that there are gay Catholics out there seeing what you are posting on Facebook and everywhere else, and they feel like all you are doing is telling them they’re not welcome in our Church.  At all.  And, if you’re not posting your clever quotes and creative memes for them, then what are you posting them for?  Just to congratulate yourself for being right?  And if you are posting for those that disagree with you, then ask yourself, is it honestly going to help them, or just remind them that you still think there is an us and a them?

    Toxic Relationships

If you are a Christian, you MUST be open, accepting, forgiving, tolerant of mediocrity, tolerant of abuse, tolerant of manipulation. Often, for the kind people who are Christian, we think it the antithesis of who we are to explicitly and absolutely cut ourselves off from people. I know that is the way that I have always thought.

What if I could be a good influence on them? What if I hurt them by rejecting them? What if they will never come to God if I do not persist with lovingly accepting abuse? What if I could change them? What if God wants me to be here?

So in honor of the unsaint and unholy Judas Iscariot, I thought I would share some of my experiences and thoughts on the issue. Finally, I hope to clarify a few things from Scripture that can reasonably be applied to Toxic Relationships.

What do you guys want me to write about?

I am working on several blog posts that I never finished, to post after Easter. So far I have friend-zoning, poisonous relationships, catholic clichés, and something about the trad panic over the new Pope. What else?
