Macho “Remember”
Tunnel Rat veteran Macho premiered his long awaited album Remember last September. After much anticipation, I admit I was thoroughly satisfied, and I kept putting it on since then. For those who do not know, Tunnel Rats was the OG Hip Hop crew out here in LA representing Christ in the Underground Scene, pretty much since the beginning. You can check out some reviews from crewmembers Propaganda “Art Ambidextrous” Shames Worthy “The Album” and Griffin “Samson.”
Macho, and his sister Elsie, moved out to LA from Boston in 2002 when the Tunnel Rats felt moved to expand the TR fam. The TRz have always had a unique approach to ministry that insists that quality hip hop is the best way to bring glory to God. They are more straightforward, and have a lot more street cred, because they just don’t come out as a “Christian rap crew.” I must admit that has always made me have a whole lot of respect for them. They also had one of the best stage presences I have ever seen, and it could be that they are the only hip hop crew that I have seen without several of their members stumbling across the stage drunk.
Over the past several years, after the TR family had a falling out with a major Christian Record Label, they came back hard as ever. Over the years, Macho has been consistent serving the Lord by taking care of his family, as well as serving the Lord working with troubled youth. Although Music is ministry to them, Macho does not limit ministry to the stage.
Remember as an album is set apart from much hip hop today, because it is deeply prayerful and reflective. The beats are diverse, and fit the mood, sometimes hard, sometimes retrospective. These tracks are to be remembered, and you can listen and purchase here.
Persuaded - The first single and video, Macho and R-Swift are persuaded that Christ is the all in all, and they hope you will be persuaded too. Check out the video too.
Remember - The title track to the album, which is a bit of retrospection to remember who you are.
I Am - So remembering where he comes from, Macho can come through with cred on who he is. This has some of that quick-spit slow-beat with a grimey dirty sound that is part of our LA Hip Hop legacy.
Don’t Listen To Your Heart - Tapping into his Puerto Rican roots with the rhythm and melody, our feelings can deceive us.
Do It Right - An eerie ethereal but intense beat for an intense message, that we will do it right now that we have a chance. Shames Worthy joins Macho on this one.
Run To You - A prayerful and soulful track, about how we desperately need to turn our hearts to God.
No Greater Love - Hip Hop Worship? Well one of the amazing stand outs of this album are some of these prayerful songs that I was surprised by. Here is another one.
Up In Your System - Some of funky fresh, classic hip hop, that keeps me a dedicated fan of the TRz. Jurny and Zane One, TR vets join Macho on this one. A remix is included for this one.
Ain’t My Life - Essentially, we do not belong to ourselves. God gave us life, and we gotta give it back to him in order to find it.
