Lenten Prayer of St Ephrem of Syria

During the season of Lent, as we penitently pray for our conversion from sinfulness to righteousness, I though this prayer of Saint Ephrem of Syria would be helpful. As Saint Ephrem of Syria is my patron saint, I will take it up for myself. It is currently in used daily in Liturgy during the season of Great Lent by Christians in the Eastern Rites. However, I think it is applicable and helpful for everyone!

O Lord and Master of my life,
Grant not unto me a spirit of idleness,
of discouragement,
of lust for power,
and of vain speaking.

But bestow upon me, Thy servant,
the spirit of chastity,
of meekness,
of patience,
and of love.

Yea, O Lord and King,
grant that I may perceive
my own transgressions,
and judge not my brother,
for blessed art Thou
unto ages of ages.
Amen.
