“The Smell Of Success” by CookBook

CookBook, OG member of LA Symphony duo with his partner in Rhyme Uno Mas, has had no shortage of bangers in West Coast Hip Hop for the past 15 years. His latest piece, The Smell of Success is his latest consistent success of artful hip hop music.

CookBook showcases his own unique style & character on this album, perhaps a smoother and gentler CB then we are used to on some of his collabs with Uno Mas. The drums are hard, with the melodies and flows smooth and precise. Considering his previous solo album, I Love the 80’s, was more of a tribute then something personal, I feel like you get to see a very personal piece of CookBook. One that is revealing as well as inspiring.

CookBook also expands beyond his LAS roots, while keeping it true Los Angeles. Perhaps one of the most outreaching artists in terms of collabs, getting Guilty Simpon, Eligh, Open Mike Eagle, Chino XL, Styliztik Jones, El Prez, LD & Ariano. Some of the sickest and hardest songs on the album, however, still keep Uno Mas in the clutch.

Uncle Cookie - Theme song for CookBook, or your Uncle Cookie, like one of the fam.

Musica Grande - collab with Chino XL, puerto rican rap extraordinaire, something of a battle rap.

DIY, My Way - Uno Mas with CB for something of a theme on their rap game.

The Party’s Still Jumping - CB, Uno Mas, Styliztik Jones, & El Prez with a party anthem, look out for the video.

Original Ideas - exploring the important hip hop idea of being original, creative, & fresh with Open Mike Eagle.

Wonderful Taste - Uncle Cookie says so himself, he’s always going on that theme of being CookBook, he has Eligh come through on the cut.

WhatIGottaDo? - CookBook writes of the problems with being an entertainer, & how ridiculous it can be trying to meet everyone’s expectations.

Show Me The Light - Heartfelt composition on the struggles and doubts for those walking with the Lord.

Anthem for the Damaged - Another very inspiring musical composition about getting up and living to the fullest, despite all the brokenness and damage we have had in our lives.
