Catholic News Agency: Video of 3 year old ‘celebrating’ Mass becomes online hit

Bogotá, Colombia - A three-year-old Colombian boy has garnered attention across the internet for a video in which he dons priestly garments and “celebrates” Mass, reciting the liturgy from memory.

Samuel Jaramillo, who is an orphan, lives with his grandmother and an aunt in the city of Medellin. When family members posted a video of the boy pretending to celebrate Mass on YouTube, it gained rapid popularity, attracting nearly 300,000 views in just over a week.

1. Being self sufficient: Because so many Christians are pro-life and have big families, money is not necessarily in abundance. Just as well, however, what better way to spend one’s money then on more disciples for Christ? So, many turn to growing their own vegetables, making their own laundry detergent, and even having their own pet chickens to lay eggs. The food is even organic!!

Worthwhile read. She doesn’t cover the fashion or pop elements as much as some of these.

Marc Barnes at Bad Catholic shuns the prefixes we use to limit or Catholicism. Most specifically, conservative, liberal, traditional or charismatic. His first commenter aptly points out that he better change the name of his blog. Anyways, I agree, the one that bugs me the most is perhaps “Real Catholic.” Not just because its judgmental or self righteous, but for some of the same reasons.

Been planning on deleting my hip hop album reviews section, as well as exporting several long text posts over to a new blog host. I discovered several Cardinal Mahoney posts. Some of them were links to posts on his blog about immigration, others were about amicable encounters that I’ve had with him. I honestly felt kind of dirty seeing that his name was on my site.

I honestly don’t want to go around bragging about some sort of good way in which I, unlike the bishops, have been to survivors of clerical sex abuse. I hope to God I don’t cave in to self interest cowardice, as bishops and Catholics have done. I have no reason to put myself on a pedestal and disassociate myself with them.

Since entering religious life, I have had several survivors of sex abuse, (not pertaining to any priests or Catholics) confess it to me. I was incredibly humbled by that, and I don’t really think its fair to anyone who has opened up to say anything more. I don’t really know what the model is, but I really hope to God that I never impede God’s Life, Grace & Love for a person who has survived abuse by turning my back on them for some one who has betrayed Christ while having official status in the Church. Pray that I don’t fail at being a Priest in that way.

As someone who is in a religious community, outside of the official episcopal structure, also recognize that many saintly religious have prophetically called Bishops to more accountability to the Gospel. Catherine of Sienna…

Finally, I don’t have any desire to tell someone who has experienced any sort of abuse on how to deal with that. I do use the term survivors, because some people who have survived abuse have found that they needed to stop identifying themselves as victim. They came to realize that they kept looking at themselves as victim in every area of life. They came to realize that they survived, lived to tell their story, and working at finding wholeness. That’s what they’ve taught me, and that’s why I see Good working in them.

Homeless L.A. man collects $250, donates it to Catholic charity that fed him for two decades:

Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish, an Augustinian Parish in Los Angeles, has a Vincent de Paul organization. Their current organizer, Claire Padama is an Augustinian affiliate (honoray Augustinian). It has made the news:

An elderly homeless man who has relied on the kindness of strangers to survive recently paid it forward.

Ed Denst, 77, donated $250, all in $1 bills, to the Catholic charity the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Council of Los Angeles.

“I was shocked,” board president Claire Padama told CBS LA. “I think that’s more meaningful than those people who have a lot.”

When I was a discerner, years ago, there was an Augustinian Priest at that Friary who thought I was a homeless man wanting a sandwich. He dismissed me over to the Rectory. That’s the program, free lunch, and this man gives testimony to how good the program is.

No more Sunday homilies until the presbyteral ordination

So today, I delivered my last Sunday homily as a deacon. My next Sunday homily will be as a priest in more than a month. I literally said a few words because there was to be an appeal from a Sister with the Sisters of the Poor at that Mass. So I didn’t bother writing a homily. It will probably not be until my Mass of Thanksgiving in mid June that I will post another homily. Between now and then I have several other ordinations and solemn vows of my classmates to attend, taking all my weekends. I will also be finally posting my last few posts, with everything happening this summer it will be difficult to post anything of substance. I am thinking about releasing a Free EP of a few songs that I have been working on, a gift to everyone marking my ordination.

Thank you, anyone who has been praying, or whoever even prayed a little. I have been officially approved officially to receive the Presbyteral Ordination. To those who missed my post last night, it will be in Los Angeles on June 15. Smile Jesus loves you!
